What is photovoltaics?

The term photovoltaics is self-explanatory: it is a compound of the Greek "Phos" (light) and "Volt" (unit of electric potential difference). It is sunlight converted into electricity. This technology was first used in the 50s when it proved to be an excellent means of supplying electrical power for satellites. Being renewable and environment-friendly, generating energy through photovoltaics has become an important energy source for our world.
