Our history
More than 50 years ago the lights came on. Having finished his apprenticeship and having gained practical experience as an electrician in a local company, Franz Leitner founded his own business. The workshop in his house soon became too small, so he had a new building constructed in place of a barn that was to be spacious enough for the 20 years that followed.
- The first orders came immediately
In the 50s and 60s important orders for electrical installations throughout South Tyrol came in. At the beginning, conduits and cables were transported by bicycle, later the "Lambretta" scooters rendered good services. Soon the first company vehicle, a "Giardinetta" was purchased, and the company Franz Leitner employed a number of apprentices and journey-levels. In the year 1970 Franz Leinter opened an electric shop in the newly-constructed business premises in Herzog Sigmund Street.
With the work having become multiple and more demanding, Franz's eldest son Hubert was more than welcome when he joined the company in 1975. He quickly learned the ropes and took over the workshop. Soon the company was split up into two branches:
In 1977 Hubert became owner-manager of the business LEITNER HUBERT KG, while the second eldest son Georg took over the electric shop ELEKTRO LEITNER.

The company expanded under the management of Hubert Leitner and a new company building was necessary. In the year 1985 the company moved to today's headquarters in the commercial area in St. Georgen. Today, more than 60 members of staff deal with the following fields of building services engineering:

Lighting technology, low tension, safety and aerial installation, electrical engineering and photovoltaics. Lighting House
In order to highlight the emergent and internationally-active branch of lighting technology a well-equipped lighting studio, the Lighting House, was opened. After the extension of the company premises in 2001, which was also the year of the company's 50th anniversary, it was relocated into the LICHTHAUS.
- Photovoltaic became more and more important
In the past three years the photovoltaic branch has experienced a strong boom. So the concentrated efforts that have been put into this sector since 1989 have finally paid off. Since the wholesale branch was given over to our partner Tecnospot GmbH, Leitner has focused on the implementation of turn-key plants of all sizes. The company will consolidate its market leadership in South Tyrol and is operating throughout the whole of Italy.
With Andreas Leitner being the third generation to join the company we have made sure that LEITNER will remain a family-run business.

In the year 2007 our company managed to triple the photovoltaic sales volume compared to the year before. The photovoltaic branch was spun off by the end of 2008 and brought into the newly-founded LEITNER SOLAR PLC, thus setting the course for further growth and a leading position in the Italian photovoltaic market. LEITNER HUBERT KG is putting great effort into the realization of innovative lighting technology with LED and electrical systems with building automation focusing on high convenience and energy efficiency.
